Artist Statement
I like to make whimsical art and especially enjoy seeing the smiles on people’s faces when they look
at my work. I am an optimist by nature and use art to create happiness. House imagery features a lot
in my work, and for me, the house symbolizes comfort, support, kindness, love, and enjoyment.
When I was a young child, my favorite thing to do was coloring. The smell of crayons to this day is my
favorite smell. When I was around 13, my mom purchased art lessons for me to take with a professional
oil painter. Through these lessons, I first learned about the color wheel, mixing my own colors, and how
to use perspective and negative space. Back then, I was drawn more towards realism, but when I later
attended the California College of Arts & Crafts, I fell in love with clay while working along side Viola Fry. After two years of school and then getting
married, I continued taking art classes at junior college, where I met ceramic artist Yoshio Taylor. Soon,
I had taken all the classes he offered and later became his Teaching Assistant. While I never received
a formal art degree, my art experiences and my job as a Gallery Manager and Curator brought me to a place of happiness, whimsy, joy, and
fulfillment; through art, I found my home.
